Wednesday, June 28th following 6PM Mass - Holy Innocents, NYC

SUPPORT THE TRADITIONAL APOSTOLATE ON MAURITIUS ISLAND
On Wednesday, June 28, following the 6PM Mass and Novena, Canon Jean- Marie Moreau will give a presentation in the Parish Hall on how you can help his apostolate on the island of Mauritius. Collection boxes will be there to allow you to contribute to this worthwhile cause. Please support Canon Moreau who regularly celebrated Holy Mass at Holy Innocents when he was assigned in West Orange, New Jersey.
************
The Island of Mauritius lies in the Indian Ocean, east of the big Island of Madagascar on the coast of East Africa and south of the Seychelles. Once part of the British Empire, it has remained a French and Creole speaking independent country. Mauritius is known for its natural beauty, pristine waters, luxurious hotels, and is in fact a first class touristic and honeymooner destination. The flip side of it is unfortunately a great poverty material and moral, a lack of education, prostitution and drug problems.
The Catholic Church is on the forefront of social problems in a multi-religious and multicultural society: 51% are Hindus, 30% Catholics and Christians and 17% Muslims. However, Blessed Father Jacques Laval, a French Holy Ghost missionary priest beatified by Saint John Paul II in 1979 is seen as the saint and father of the whole Mauritian nation, regardless of religion.
The Bishop there, His Eminence Maurice Piat, was been created a Cardinal by Pope Francis in October 2016. In August 2016, he had invited the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest to serve in his diocese of Port- Louis. Canon Jean Marie Moreau was sent to take care of the pastoral needs of the sick at the civil hospital in the capital and two private clinics, as well as to serve the newly organized Latin Mass community.
